The Reading Hospital Road Run on Sunday, October 16 will have something for everyone, from beginner to elite runner. And downtown Reading will be part of the action this year.
Activities will include a half-marathon, one-mile fun run/fitness walk, and a 5K run. In addition, a health and fitness expo will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in the 700 block of Penn Street on Saturday, October 15 from noon to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, October 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. Several local vendors will be on-site displaying their products and services.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers in each race. Plus there will be age group awards in both races, from ages 14 and under to 65 and up.
And runners are encouraged to enter the team competition. In both the 5K and half marathon, a winning team will be awarded in each of these four team categories:
- All-Female team
- All-Male team
- Community (Co-ed) team
- Reading Health System team
Teams must be comprised of at least three runners. Prizes will be awarded to the top three on a winning team with scoring to be done cross-country style using the top three runners.
What’s more, all half-marathon finishers will get bronze Pagoda-themed medals.
Race organizers point out that entry fees will increase after Friday, September 30. The one-mile fun run is free.
