Our Ambassadors in Action
Reading Downtown Improvement District’s Cleaning Ambassadors have been keeping Downtown sidewalks clean since 1995. They are joined by a crew of well-trained Safety Ambassadors. Each group has specific duties carried out on a daily basis. Together, they work to provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment to all who live, work or visit downtown.
The clean and safe elements work hand in hand. Statistics show that clean streets make for safe streets. With the assistance of the safety patrols, our Ambassador team enhances the vitality and appearance of center city Reading. Our Ambassador services are provided under a contract with StreetPlus, a company that has similar accounts throughout the nation.
Several Ambassadors are Latino and bilingual. This allows us to better serve the growing number of Latino-owned businesses and Latino shoppers and visitors to the downtown. Our Ambassadors often help non-Latino merchants in communicating with Spanish-speaking customers.
